Knotted

A hairbrush can be gross; there’s dust, old hair, or dirt caught in between the bristles. Yet these same brushes are used to make hair look perfect, smooth, and clean. Something so dirty is needed to keep up the image of being “put together.” It shows us how beauty can come from things that aren’t perfect or glamorous. The repetitive brushing of one’s hair, constantly striving for perfect, straight strands, tangles in the bristles, and creates a beauty of its own. Even with how messy they look, there’s still something beautiful about the brushes in the photos. The way the colors of the hair mix with the brush’s plastic feels hypnotic. The contrasting sentiments of being human.
